All latest regenerative procedures are performed on regular basis with good patient’s satisfaction, which is reflected by a sufficient OPD on a regular basis.
CONSERVATIVE DENTISTRY & ENDODONTICS
The department has all the advance equipments and materials that are needed in this modern advance era of patients care. There are more than 50 fully equipped dental chairs and has got both UG and PG courses. Sufficient numbers of patients not only from the city but also from adjoining areas come and get their treatment. Various treatment like gold or silver fillings, tooth colored filling (composite) are done. In badly broken down tooth crown and metal or ceramic are given. This branch also deals in cosmetic/esthetic aspect by treating discolored, malformed or deformed tooth using techniques like bleaching, veneering etc., thereby imparting confidence to the patients. The endodontics parts of this branch also deal with Root Canal Treatment (i.e. infection in the tooth resulting in damage of nerve and vessels) & minor surgeries of cyst, granuloma and abscess of periapical area of tooth. It also restores grossly broken down tooth with help of post/core & crown. Endodontic implants. Pins etc. are one of the many treatment carried out.
This department is fully equipped with all the advance technologies like RVG, Digital Library with internet facilities etc. The department has also got highly qualified staff with 3 Professors and Readers that undertake strict UG/PG curriculum, so that all the students are able to get quality education thereby doing justice to the degree they achieve.
Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics
Introduction:
The department came into existence in 1988. Post graduate (MDS) program was started in 2001. It has grown to be one of the premier orthodontic post graduate training center in the country. The students are admitted through post graduate entrance exam. Each year 3 post graduate students are admitted.
Our Alumni are holding responsible positions in various Dental Schools in India.
In the Undergraduate curriculum, the department teaches BDS students to diagnose, prevent and treat various dental malocclusions and craniofacial anomalies.
Activities:
Under graduate training in the speciality.
Post graduate training
Research
Specialty training in Orthodontics includes the following:
Removable appliance therapy
Functional appliances & orthopedic appliances
Fixed appliance therapy including different techniques
Begg’s
Standard Edgewise
Pre adjusted edgewise appliance- Roth, M.B.T.
Tip Edge
Surgical Orthodontics
Treatment of Cleft lip & Palate Cases
Use of newer techniques e.g. – Implants
The Post graduate curriculum is of 3 years in duration and during which each post graduate student is expected to submit a Library dissertation, Thesis, and work on a special project. In the first 6 months the Post Graduate student carries out wire bending exercises and typodont work. This is followed by clinical training which consists of treatment of patients under the supervision of staff members.
Examination Pattern:
MDS Part I – General Dental and Medical Subjects
(Theory)
MDS Part I – Viva voce and Presentation of exercise work and seminars presented
(Practical) in first year.
MDS Part II – Held at the end of third year. Consists of 4 theory papers.
(Theory)
MDS Part II – Spread over 2 days. Pattern is similar to MDS orthodontic practical (Practical) examination held anywhere in the country.
Prosthodontics pertains to any replacement of the oral and maxillofacial region.
In the Deptt. Of Prosthodontics, there is an undergraduate clinical section comprising of 20 dental units, an undergraduate pre-clinical section with a laboratory which can accommodate 100 students.
For the postgraduate students,. There is a clinical section comprising of 10 dental units with a unit allotted to each student. A fully equipped in house dental laboratory for metal-ceramic (crown bridges), dentures, and cast partial, maxillofacial prosthesis etc. is provided for routine as well as research work.
A seminar room and a departmental library are utilized for academic purpose.
A specially designed surgery section is an added attraction to the deptt. Of Prosthodontics for implant cases.
The Department of Oral Pathology & Microbiology of the D.A.V (C) Dental College & Hospital is dedicated to providing an environment of scholarly inquiry; teaching and patient care wherein graduate students can pursue their study of the specialty of oral and maxillofacial pathology with both effectiveness and flexibility.
The required course work and rotations are designed to assure a student's exposure to and competency in the various aspects of speciality practice in oral and maxillofacial pathology as defined in the Dental council of India’s Standards for Advanced Speciality Education Programs in Oral Pathology.
The elective courses and rotations available to graduate students provide a variety of opportunities for professional enrichment in areas of clinical practice related to oral and maxillofacial pathology and in areas of basic science and research important to a student's future academic pursuits. The program includes a required research component and thesis defense leading to either the degree of Master or Doctor of Dental Sciences. The objective of that activity is to train each student in the design and conduct of biomedical research. The program recognizes that students come to graduate training from a wide variety of backgrounds and with differing experience, needs and career objectives. While maintaining basic standards as outlined above, we try to allow each graduate student to tailor his/her research program and elective course work and rotations to his/her needs so as to maximize the future utility of the training received. We are able to offer such flexibility because of the diversity of opportunities offered through the University's various Schools and Affiliates, an environment of didactic activity, patient care, and clinical and basic biomedical research that is the equal of any in the world.
Students are encouraged to achieve competency in oral and maxillofacial pathology to at least the level of Fellowship in the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. In addition, they are offered the opportunity to develop expertise in research, diagnostic surgical pathology and teaching, so as to be competitive in the pursuit of their long-term career goals. We hope in this way to contribute to our student's success and to promote progress for both oral and maxillofacial pathology and the dental profession overall.
